As I reach out I look beyond my fingertips at the night sky getting further away. I hear the air rush passed me, waving the ends of my hair around the edges of my vision.
I try to flap my wings but I’m falling too fast, as I sail backward momentum carries them around me and the wind is too heavy to beat against.
Feeling a burning pain run along my back and wings I gasp. In the corner of my vision I see my wings catch fire, my eyes widen. The fire consumes my feathers, sending their ash into the air.
I can’t take in a breath, my lungs start to feel like there’s a fire in them too. All of this pain becomes too much, tears sting my eyes before flying off into the air too.
The fire starts to burn through my wings and the skin on my back. Clenching my eyes I let out a scream that the wind carries away from me.
I feel a slap on my back and my descent slows. I open my eyes and see water come over me. The ashes of my wings float on the surface, blocking my view of the stars.
